Is the Piss Biscuit for Sale?

Thu, Jul 17, 2008

Business, Site News

Rumors have it that The Piss Biscuit is for sale. I’ve gotten a number of e-mails in the last two days from people I do and don’t know asking about the details. I guess somewhere in this not so big sphere of bloggers, someone let the cat out of the bag so I decided to write a little post about it just to fill you guys in.

Over the past week or so, I’ve come to realize that I’m a little bit in over my head with all the things that I’ve got going on right now. That said, I did mention “in private”, to a few folks that the possibility of selling may be approaching, but at that time, I had not yet made a solid decision.

Though I’ve been so busy that my commenting, reading and of course writing has suffered, I decided it was time to make an official statement… especially after getting 8 e-mails in the last two days, about this “alleged” sale. So aside from being so busy I feel stupid, I’ve assembled a few thoughts on the issue at hand in the hope that each of you can offer up a little advice in regards to which direction I should take my old friend The Piss Biscuit.

A General Look at things

In order to some solid advice and really make your vote count, I think you all should learn a little bit more about my friend here and the progress that we‘ve made. So in the spirit of sharing, here are some quickie facts and figures for you to chew on. Keep in mind that this information is as recent as I can get and for the most part, are assembled using averages, not whole numbers.

  • There is an average of 20 comments to each post.
  • Averaging 179 visitors a day.
  • Total visits so far this month 2,700
  • 30,670 page views so far this month

Social Networks

Truth be told, I haven’t done squat with social networks. In fact, I’ve done so little it’s actually a little embarrassing. Oh well, I’m over it. As you all can clearly see, it’s time I get my ass into gear with spreading the brand. Again… it all comes down to time and energy needed to get it done… two things I’ve been missing!

  • Alexa Traffic Rank: 399,625
  • Technorati Rank: 378,310
  • Feedburner Subscribers: 16
  • Stumble Upon: 12 Fans and 7 Main Site Stumbles

Search Engine Stats

I get TONS of organic traffic from a few odd search terms. Since I’ve got no real focus or niche, it’s really hard to allocate the successes and failures of my SEO work (or in this case lack there of). So, that said, here are some of the search terms driving traffic to the my blog.

  • Number one search term: The Piss Biscuit (444 searches so far this month)
  • I rank high on first page for “Blogger Unleashed Challenge”
  • Rank on page two for “Blogger Unleashed”
  • Rank number one for “Mimbo Pro Re-Design”
  • 1601 visitors this month stayed between 2-5 minutes

So am I selling out?

The answer in short… no. Mrs. Piss is responsible for this one as well as some others like Missy, Bryan, Affiliate Pizzle, and Joe Money. As for Mrs. Piss, she’s made it clear that this is my place that uses a name and a brand that I developed… why sell it? For 500-600 bucks?

Put the gun down!

No need to shoot yourselves because, no… I’m not selling yet. And even though I’ll always entertain offers, it’s more or less out of curiosity and good business practice, rather than necessity. Okay, now it’s your turn… what should I do with Piss Biscuit? Let’s here it.

  1. Robin Says:

You had the blogger blues, you have been asking for inspiration and now again you ask what to do with your blog. How long does your blog exist now? :)
For me your blog feels a bit chaotic, which probably has to do with the fact that it doesn’t have a real focus.

It looks like when you have a great idea you immediately jump on it, start full throttle but after the first turn you get discouraged and start with something new an exiting.

Like the tweak a week project, think we all know that you don’t have any obligations against anyone and we can’t expect that from you either. But I think you should be more careful when making promises like this because before you know people might think your just doing it to get attention to your site. According to your first timeschedule you would have been working on your fourth redesign now but the first one is not even finished yet.

About your last question what to do with PB, well continue doing what you have been doing until now, because you have proved that you have a talent for it, only do it one at the time. :)

  2. PB Says:

@ Robin: It is chaotic, but that’s what happens when you blog just to blog.

I never give up or turn tail… you’re pretty accurate though when you say I like to jump… It’s very true, however I never forget where I should be at any given time.

As for a tweak a week… I wrote a follow up post explaining that I did it as a promotional tool… I got TONS of e-mails, however NO ONE did what I asked.

I did pick four winners, and I am working on all four… albeit slowly, they are getting done. The reality is that in every case, each winner took it from a theme Tweak, to totally custom theme in no time flat… still without doing the promotional portion of the contest. In essence, I picked winners, just to pick winners for the sake of the contest… and applicants simply applied to get something for free. While yes that was the way to a means, it was never meant just for it to be a way of getting something for nothing.

As for continuing what I’m doing… I’m working on that. The day job is kicking my ass and I’m trying to actually spend time with the Mrs… whereas in the past, it was work 24-7

Thanks for the speech Robin! :-)

  3. zania Says:

Well, I’ve just bookmarked this post in a couple of places, so you might get some nice offers you can’t refuse, who knows? :)
I think Robyn’s right, you do tend to jump in all over the place. I can almost feel your mind glowing with anticipation of the fulfilment of your latest project. (possibly, because I’m a bit that way myself…).

And you don’t have to keep making those free offers, you know, especially if they become a pain in the butt. If you want to make them to promote The Piss Biscuit, then why not offer less often.
This blog is only a few weeks old after all. Sometimes you want to run too fast for your own good.

Hope you don’t sell, because the PB is successful because of your personality, so it would be a hard act to follow for a new PB owner.
But with those figures and the stress you have put yourself under, I would understand if you did sell.

  4. zania Says:

And when I said ‘those figures’, I meant because they are good!

  5. Mrs. Piss Says:

@ Zania: What does your last statement mean? Are the numbers really that bad?

  6. zania Says:

Hi Mrs Piss :) I was just clarifying my post.
When I read it again, it looked as if I thought PB should sell because the figures were bad. But what I really meant was that he could get a good price for the Piss Biscuit (relative to the blog’s age) and that, added to the stress PB has gotten himself in, may tip him towards selling.

  7. Blog for Beginners Says:

    Hey PB

I was kind of dumb-founded with a bit of disappointment when this article landed on my email a while ago and I thought ‘Oh Gosh..you really did that?..

I thought you are walking along the same thread as Bryan by flipping the site at its first break but then again I would imagine that the PB I know (thought not very much) is ‘desperate’ enough to make that kind of money.

I guess the majority of us your readers agree that there is a lack of real focus here at Piss Biscuit but your personality and style of writing has brought it where it is so far and I’m in the opinion that when you hit that ‘focus’ blues right (perhaps somewhere between web design and SEO - I guess that’s where your expertise is), you could be on your way to join the A-list bloggers and start a real challenge to ‘Vic’.

Please don’t do anything to PB for anything less than $20K…unless the next Marc is dropping you an email right now..

    Yan

  8. Blog for Beginners Says:

Correction: (I should have proof-read it)

….I thought you are walking along the same thread as Bryan by flipping the site at its first break but then again I wouldn’t imagine that the PB I know (though not very much) is ‘desperate’ enough to make that kind of money…

  9. Missy Says:

    Get a grip, nuff said.

  10. Nick Says:

if you push through the first couple month drought, in no time this thing could be a huge money maker. Look at your results, you’re quickly on your way to the A-list. put in a little more time and effort and you’ll get there. I know this is all about not having the time or effort needed, but if you can find it… dude, you’ll be a big dog in no time.

With that said, and as a ‘e-friend’, I have to speak the truth. So, I’ll just elaborate on what Missy Said, Dude get a god damn grip. You have a good thing here, but everytime things deter off the path of ‘perfect’ that you have someone managed to find either by accident or design (I’m not quite sure yet) you freak out. That’s not good, again, as a friend (because I’d be doing no good if I didn’t tell you the blatant truth, if you want a yes man, find someone else to skype with :D) it’s a huge turn off to come here and see that every few days you are thinking about quitting. You got it good, and in a way, it’s a slap in the face to all the people that are trying to reach the level of success you have.

So, in short, just chill dude! Have a beer, write a post, and have fun. IF you aren’t having fun with it, then maybe you should consider selling. But first, realize how fortunate and brilliant this site is.

  11. theaffiliatepost Says:

@ Robin: I may be accused of speaking out of turn here but I think if you read the original post you’ll see that PB has more than delivered on his promises. A tweak has somehow turned into a full site re-design which is what is maybe causing the delay. No offense, but as the first ‘tweak’ is yours I think you could be more grateful? :)
    @ Missy: LOL. Nuff said!

@ Nick: I could not have said it better myself… another first class comment.

  12. Coach Kip Says:

Hang in there PB. You have a great looking site. If you don’t want to update it so regularly don’t, most of your readers won’t mind.

  13. JK Swopes Says:

    @PB

You already know how I feel about you selling it man! So this site has no focus….SO WHAT, that’s what makes it the Piss Biscuit, you can talk about whatever you want and your readers know this.

With the stuff you have planned in the near future, I think you will have an outlet that is more “focused” when blog fluff is official. I say keep the ole pisser running, and keep it exactly how it is.

I come here for randomness as well as learning, and I love that I can get that in both. On this blog you can “let your hair down” so to speak.

So, I say, don’t change a thing about it, sure, we’d like to see you posting more, as a piss biscuit a day can keep the boredom away!

We also know how busy you are with work and such, and the new projects. I truly believe Blog Fluff will give everyone that “focus” they are looking for from you.

But I also don’t go to the Steakhouse looking for Taco Bell food…same with the Pisser, I come here for a specific “food” that only the Pisser can offer….don’t go changing the menu on us :)

  14. robin Says:

@ affliatepost; I never said I wasn’t gratefully for what PB has been up to and my post might be misunderstood, if English isn’t your native language it’s not always easy to write down what you exactly mean. I can understand very well if PB doesn’t have the time for this because other, more important things are occupying him, I also would understand if he doesn’t want to continue with it because as far as I’m concerned, PB doesn’t have any obligations.

Only thing I missed was a a certain point communication, PB went of at a flying start with a lot of back and forth going messages and then suddenly all went to a full stop, the first question I asked remained unanswered and after the second a few days later PB replied.

For me that was all i needed, even if he would have told that he changed his mind to not continue. I think this is a problem with PB that he wants to do too many things simultaneously and then he gets trapped in his own web. :)
So I really do appreciate what PB is doing but I think he should slow down a bit, actually he’s a bit like me when I was younger and I still have hundreds idea’s that I want to do but age has learned me to be bit more patient. Btw, I”m 43 now, not that old but with enough life experience to know when it’s time to sit down and look at the grass growing :)

  15. zania Says:

    Check your trackbacks PB.
I’ve just done a write up on one of my other blogs for The Piss Biscuit. Probably best not to let the links disappear in your spam ;)

  16. The Daily Belle aka UBTC aka Britt Says:

Phew! Glad you are not selling. Before I read the post the picture worried me a bit. I don’t think you should sell either. It is too soon to pull out and I can see this blog going far. Maybe write shorter posts, maybe bring back THE PISS LIST that I have been waiting for :) Maybe have guest bloggers if you are too busy to write a post sometimes, but at least with a guest blogger you will constantly have content and not make people wonder why there are no new posts up!

I absolutely love reading this blog and would cry a thousand tears if I ever saw it go.

  17. PB Says:

@ Zania: What a totally awesome post you wrote for me! That has got to be the best review I’ve read to date and I’m not kidding either!

Talk about motivation… you nailed me to the floor and then some my friend… you came out of that fox hole firing like a mad man! LOL. You own the internet for that one! Or do I?

For all of you who missed it… here’s the link! Go over there and read it… it’s totally awesome… http://www.zaniadult.com/bloggers_round_up/2008/07/a-great-communi.html

@ Robin, Yan, AP, Nick, Swopes, Coach, Missy, UBTC: You all have kicked me square in the ass and gotten me back in line… I love it! Thank you all so much for the support.

PB is here to stay as am I… my promise yo you all is to take things easy… don’t over promise and under deliver, and of course, give all of you the the PB you all have come to expect. Nothing less.

My little cry baby fits are part of the business and everyone has them… maybe not as vocal about it, but it’s there for all of us at points.

To all of you who e-mailed me today… I’ll be reading an replying through out the night. I had a long day and plan on having a nice dinner and a movie with the Mrs… so I have not forgotten or ignored any of you…

Thanks again to everyone be sure to check out Zania’s awesome post written for yours truly.

  18. zania Says:

    Hi PB,
    Glad you liked the review.

“You own the internet for that one! Or do I?”
I think you do PB ;)
Now have a nice dinner with the Mrs and chill out. :)

  19. BlueWorkhorse Says:

In my typical fashion, I read and get to respond a couple days after the original post and after everyone else has responded.

I agree with everyone else that you shouldn’t sell. I think instead of stressing out about PB, take a step back. Look at what you have accomplished thus far. If needed, write less frequently if it’ll help ease the stress and tension…we all enjoy The Pisser and are still going to enjoy it even if there isn’t a post per day or whatever set number you have in your mind.

But I think UBTC has a great idea as well with guest posts. Guest posts would keep you from feeling the need to write so often and maybe even inspire you to something as well. Another option could possibly be to get a partner or two to write on The Pisser. Of course, it might be tough to find someone the community would enjoy.

    Just my two.

  20. PB Says:

@ Blue: Thanks for the reiteration… I actually failed to absorb UBTC’s suggestion on the first go round.

I think to some level that getting a guest poster would be inciting a riot…LOL… though it’s a compliment to the greatest degree, I’m not sure if putting this bad boy in the hands of another would be a viable solution.

When it comes to posting, it’s not the frequency of posts that bothers me. In fact it’s the opposite. I really enjoy writing especially since I know that it’s well received.

I think simply pulling my head out of my butt should do the trick… so… POP goes the weasel! I’m getting my ass into gear and getting back on track without further delay.

As for the last to have your say… I think you can fix that on my latest post… it remains comment free as of now! :-P As always… thanks for the great commentary.

  21. Bryan Clark Says:

    So, I can’t buy this site? :P
Glad you are sticking around PB. I think that some time management exercises would serve you well!

Bryan Clarks last blog post..What About RSS Subscribers?

  22. theaffiliatepost Says:

@ PB - sent you an email regards this and glad to hear that you are sticking around.

@ Robin - Glad you did not take my comment the wrong way and appreciate that your clarified certain issues. As I said, I may have been speaking out of turn but thats just how I saw things. Hooray for the bloggers soapbox right?

    And…as you said,

“I think this is a problem with PB that he wants to do too many things simultaneously and then he gets trapped in his own web.” I TOTALLY AGREE!I am also guilty of this myself.

@ Bryan: If you can dodge a gayball you can buy this site! Oh wait…..you can’t!!!!!! ;)
theaffiliateposts last blog post..Notes To PissBiscuit - Thank You!
