News from the Piss Biscuit

Well today was rather hectic for me so I went ahead an did one of my all around general news type of posts for ya. I’ve got a little bit of everything in here so read on. Oh and by the way, due to popular demand… if anyone has some news they’d like me to share with my readers, send me an e-mail, and I’ll see what I can do for ya! A little publicity can go a long way…
The One Man’s Goal Giveaway!
As some of you all know, some of my favorite blogs to read are of those who are new to the game or just starting out. One of my favorites though, comes from Marc over at the recently purchased One Man’s Goal. He’s doing what I think is his first major promotional event and I’d love to share it with you all. Show him some Piss Biscuit love and head on over! Don’t forget to tell him who sent ya! Go learn how Marc is making money online!
Update Your Freakin Ping list people!
Over the past few days I noticed a pretty drastic increase of traffic… and clueless to where it was coming from. So going through my trustee stats page… I realized that posts were being written about how cool my blog was… and to my dismay, they weren’t being listed on my incoming links feed. After a little research I realized that other bloggers were not notifying the world of their updates when this is one of five things you do to your blog before anything else. Do yourself a favor and make sure you’ve added this in your admin panel!

So..I read the word Ping.
Then I thought of Ping Pong..
Then I thought of Beer Pong…
Then I thought of the new video game that the news has been going on and on about.

I understand that this may be leading teens in the wrong direction, but I sure as hell would like to give the game a go!

@Mr. Buscuit – Thanks for the link love and the mention. Based on the first comment, I’d love to see some of your readers head over and check out my site.
@Britt, you had me until beer pong, my brain stopped there. We have a beer pong table set up in the backyard; I just called up some friends. Thanks for a good idea on how to waste this Wednesday night.

Thanks for mentioning the one man’s goal thing…I’ll have to go check it out.
I think I have most of those ping services on my list, I also use pingomatic in my list which has a lot of those in it…but, I added them anyway for good measure just in case!
I don’t think it will ping the same one twice, plus I use the ping optimizer plugin so the blog only pings on actually posts and not edits and such…

Thanks for the links. I feel you with ideas all the time. So I guess that I am offering my services to what you need. Hit me up and we will see what we can partner on.

Cheers PB,
I have updated the ping services on your recomendation….. just gotta wait now

@ JK: Pingomatic is fine and does claim to ping all the major services. But when you compare it to trying to suck wet concrete through a coffee straw… you’ll start to see that letting one service TRY and do all the work is almost anti productive.
Pinging all the major sites individually is a much more reliable and faster way of sending out notifications. I know that most of you understand this already, but if it takes two or three days for your site’s pings to hit every one of the submission services… you’ll never be the guy or gal that offers breaking news.
@ Coach: I hope you understand that those links aren’t links… they get copied into your admin panel. Just didn’t know if I wasn’t clear on that from your comment.
As for the ideas… Um yeh! I surprised I’m not a raging mad man from all the stuff I’d like to do in a day. My contact form is always open!
@ Forest: But now you’ll be waiting for a lot less time! LOL. Glad it helped!

@PB- cool, that makes sense, I added them all to my ping list anyway, do you suggest removing pingomatic and pingoat completely from the list and just use the individual servers?
July 12th, 2008 at 2:20 pm
No, I’ve got those included on all my blogs as well. Some SEO’s are under the impression that multiple pings within a certain time frame creates a red flag for listing services. These red flags can add up to a banned account or de-indexing.
I agree to some extent, but I’m under the theory that unless you’ve been “spammy” with 10 hits in under an hour… you won’t have a problem.
More so than to many pings from different services… you’ve got to watch how many time you edit a post after it’s been published. If you have one or two systems that will ping duplicates… no problem. However, if you post something and then edit it over and over and over again for anything… you can create a problem for yourself.
I know most of us try to edit prior to publication, but sometimes you have to add something or change a words spelling or usage. That’s okay, but if you plan on making NUMEROUS changes… like a growing list of sorts, then I advise changing 20% of your content when you do to keep from being slapped with a flag.
Hope that this helps clarify!

@PB
I use ping optimizer by maxblogpres, it handles that problem. By default, as you know, Wordpress pings on each edit, and if you do any post scheduling, it will ping when you save the draft, not when they actually post.
Maxblogpress pingoptimizer will only ping when you publish the post, it will not ping no matter how many times you edit…
Check it out man, you’ll love it! I have been using it since a little after I started my self hosted blog….I edit things a lot sometimes, or I’ll come back and change something after writing it the night before
I use quite a few of their plugins man, love em…tell me what you think

Let me know if you use it man or what you think about the way it works, it seems to work well for me…you can even see when it pings, what servers, and what times… I love it!

Is there a way to add this list to Blogger? Maybe as a widget? Someone please let me know….
Thanks
By the way…..awesome site!

@ Ray: I’m not sure if Blogger will allow you to perform your own pings. I’ll have to look into that a bit more. Thanks for the compliment, look forward to seeing more of ya around here!

Thanks for the ping list.
I will go slow on the pings though just in case, too much of a good thing turns out to be even worse serps.
