I’ll Trade Web Hosting for Help!
I know that offering “goodies” has been a way to get things kicked off for many new blogs so I figured what the heck why not try a few things and see how they work out. Now even though I’ve got a handful of real zingers to giveaway over the next few weeks… I’m going to start off small, but, still important none the less.
My Dilemma: I’ve got a habit of commenting on quite a few blogs when I really should be working on other things… like my job. So in a valiant effort to get back on schedule at the office, as well as get the creative juices flowing, I would like you all to tell me how to give away a ticket to An Event Apart worth $995.00!
Bloggers have come up with a crazy number of ways to market themselves and this isn’t any different. Granted, it’s not crazy yet, but I’m willing to get there if someone suggests something new and memorable… remember that’s what I’m looking for. Fresh ideas, nothing stale. Do you have some thoughts?
“I’ll give one year of free hosting away to a random blogger (or blogger hopeful), who offers up a killer idea for giving away my ticket to one of the coolest conferences you can attend… ” -An Event Apart
Simply submit your suggestions via the comments, or write a post asking your visitors to help me decide what to do and presto, you’ll earn yourself a chance at some free hosting. I want this to be fun and worthwhile, so please make sure your ideas and suggestions aren’t boring! I’ll choose a winner on June 15, 2008 and begin preparing for the big giveaway. Let’s see what you’ve got!

Seeing as everyone is dodging this one may I be the first to comment. The competitions I have seen in the past that took my fancy are things that are simple quick and easy tasks to complete. Granted the prize is a good one but still you might find people are lazy. Hence no comments on this post as yet. I will put some thought into this for you today (once my hangover passes).
The way I see it,the purpose of the competition is to promote you blog and I think that PB looks great and is ready for an influx of visitors. Therefore the task or challenge should be one that does exactly that. Perhaps you could give it to a random drawn person from everyone who stumbles your site between x day and x day, or as an award to someone for writing the best post about your blog.
Then again that sounds a little lame and I am sure we can do better than that. Will sleep on it!

Tell you what PB, if you want to email me that rather splendid banner you did for this comp, I will gladly stick it on the affiliate post till closing date.

@ AP: First let me just say that your offer is VERY generous and I would be more than happy to take you up on the offer… lets just figure out how we can both get a little traffic from it first and then launch a collective campaign.
Easy is right and contests are a bit worn for the wear these days if you know what I mean. I was figuring that bloggers would be interested in learning more about making their blogs look and work better so this event would really be cool… I went whne it was here in New Orleans about a month or two ago and thought it was well worth the $1000.00 buck it cost to attend. Not to mention the freebies were pretty cool
Okay so here are some thoughts:
Free hosting
A Custom Blog Theme by PB (or customizations)
Your choice of premium themes found on my premium themes page
Ticket to an event apart… location and date of your choice
Cold hard cash money
Any other thoughts? I’m kinda getting nervous about the ticket because I’ve got to use it this year and there are only three events left. Let game plan!

PB, since you are great at evoking the kind of comment on this blog, why not put in place the top commentator plugin on your sidebar and offer some goodies to your monthly top commentator?

@ B4B: Great idea. Will look into the plugin tomorrow morning so thanks for the tip!

I’ll be mulling this one over, but maybe something like a picture contest…where the entrants will try to provide a picture of the most creative way to real-life advertise your website (the entrants put your web address on a t-shirt and put the shirt on a sexy girl, they put your web address on an airplane banner, they shoe polish your web address on the entire side of a business skyscraper – especially if there is another business building adjacent, or something like that).
Then whoever has the best picture wins.

I think the ONLY problem with that is the amazing skills of some photoshop artists out there… great ideas though, maybe I’ll work on coming up with a spinoff.

Yea, I thought about that. Maybe there could be some way to verify the winner or something like that. Not sure of the logistics.
If all else fails, maybe this will spur you or someone else on to some brilliant idea.

@ Blue: Cracking idea! Regardless of photoshop or not!!!
@PB: I have been a little quiet over here for a while it seems, but good to see more and more people commenting. I might just use the office printer to run off 1000 or so stickers with your logo on it; then I can then pay some youth to flypost them all over London for you. I could then go on the underground (subway) and photo it for you!

@ AP: I know you’ll keep coming! I’ve taken almost the whole weekend off just to relax my brain. I know the feeling of having to get other things done too.
If you start plastering the city with stickers… I’m not sure I can come up with such a cool prize…
@ Blue: All we’re doing right now is brainstorming so I’m more than happy to accept, ideas that need a little ironing out.
