FullTiltBlogging is a CopyCat?

Fri, Jun 6, 2008

Business, Rants & Raves, Site News

Well I was about to head home from the office when my reader went ding! It was FullTiltBlogging’s feed reader and when I read the headline, I almost flipped my wig. Arron, has decided to and I quote:

Each week you will have the opportunity to recommend a marketing babe to possibly be elevated to “Marketing Babe of the Week” status. The Marketing Babe will get her picture prominently placed on my blog, a complete bio page and links back to their blog.

It’s a win-win-win-win-win-win. (That’s a six-way win, which is far superior to the “win-win” and at least twice as good as the “win-win-win”.)

I knew that some of these guys were cut throat, but straight up stealing an idea is simply pathetic and I’m pretty pissed about it. Arron’s one and a half paragraph posts and “borrowed” ideas have really burned my ass and I’m pretty pissed off about it.

Talk About A Low Blow!

If I remember correctly, it was not even a week ago, when I presented an idea for a new section on Piss Biscuit offering to do the same thing… but of course only better! But wait, Arron is calling it “Marketing Babes” Okay, so the ONLY change Arron has made is calling it “Marketing Babes”. Holy smokes Arron, you could have been a bit more original don’t ya think!!!

Payback is Hell!

Now, I’m more determined than ever to get all these submissions I received posted and get this baby kicked off ASAP! The only thing exciting is his first submission! So where do we stand with this? Good question! Since this has now become a war of contrition for me, I’m willing to offer almost anything to show ‘em what we’ve got.

Make money online blogs wage wars all the time… so I’m getting prepared to dig in and fight! I think I’m going to have to recruit UBTC for help as she is in with all the lady bloggers (I hope). Maybe this is worth a custom theme designed by yours truly!

Spartans! Ready your breakfast and eat hearty… For tonight, we dine in hell!

  1. Bryan Clark Says:

Get used to it! Unfortunately, it happens more often than we’d like. However, are you use that he saw it on your blog? The easiest excuse would be to say “I never saw the post”, and it could be true. Just my two cents, for what it’s worth.

Maybe you can have them face off death-match style with a winner take all prize. Face two against each other, and then hand out a prize at the end of the month. Not a tournament per sey, but keep a running tab of who is winning and who lost on a page in your blog. Then you can pit the winners against the winners until there is only one. Then do the same thing next month. At the end of the year, you could have the monthly winners face off.

I need to get out more *sigh*.

  2. PB Says:

@ Bryan: Yeh, I’m aware of the loopholes… I just thought it was… and is a bit “curious” that almost the very same concept came popping up within the same week. In fact, what make it more suspicious is the fact that I had left a comment on his blog just the other day… so had I not been a recent poster, I’d be more apt to just waive it off.

HOWEVER! I do like your idea of “Battle of the Babe Bloggers”. If we can figure something out with it, I’m game. Interested? Maybe we could make it a group project of sorts.

A few of us here could set up a blog, promote it work it and then sell it. We’d then split the profits and write all about the process in the meantime.

I’ve got the servers for hosting, We can find a domain, and I’ll design a theme that will just plain kick ass.

Sounds god to me! Lets do it… I sense history in the making here :-) You need to get out more? Ha ha ha! No sir, I my friend need to get out more! Between Piss Biscuit and the corporate gig that pays my bills… I don’t think I’ve done squat this week!

  3. Aaron at FullTiltBlogging.com Says:

    Piss,

What can I say, great minds think alike.

  4. Bryan Clark Says:

On that note, I may just go out for a cold beverage or twelve tonight. Good idea PB. Download Skype and we’ll talk about it. ;)

  5. PB Says:

@ Bryan: Lets do it… but we’ve got to do it quick though! Maybe after you get blitzed… LOL! A nice Jack N Coke would be ideal right about now.

Skype! I did already! I sent you an e-mail about it this morning. I’m not on now, but my username is “pissbiscuit”.

  6. Kirsty Says:

Hey hey hey now wait a minute Piss… if I recall, your idea was to submit photos of loved ones, his idea was just babes in general. Loved ones = boys and girls. Babes = random hottie chicks, whether you know them or not. TOTALLY different! Ok well not totally different… and it is a bit of a coincidence. But you know what? Go with it because as a new blog, a bit of controversy and competition will do wonders. But of course, you know that! :-)

  7. robin Says:

Shit happens, get over it and move on, why waist energy on it and a make another post on the same topic?

And mom does rock and looks like a really nice person but I’m glad I’m not married to her, it looks like she never stops talking. :)

  8. theaffiliatepost Says:

@ PB: Like Bryan said…. get used to it. If anything it sounds like this has spurred you on which can only be a good thing. Take it as a compliment and just do it….but do it with more class, style and in good humour. That way you will come out on top. Love the Spartan quote btw.

@ Bryan: How are you feeling this morning after those 12 drinks?!?

    @ Aaron: Cheeky comment!

  9. Piss Biscuit Says:

@ Robin: Agreed. As for the post on the same topic, I’m not sure that I follow. Initially, it was quite aggravating but I think that Bryan and I are going to make lemonade out of lemons with it.

Mom does rock… but only because she’s a bit of a hottie. LOL!

@ AP: I left a reply on Araon’s site just for a little banter. Really kinda fun actually. :-) I should get good ideas borrowed on more often.

  10. Tor Says:

I know the feeling. Once I published some articles on my crappy website of then that had a certain theme, a major paper publication in the same niche took the idea and made it’s own without as much as tip of the hat to me. But now years later I find it reassuring that though my site died I had something worth steeling.

  11. Bryan Clark Says:

I didn’t quite meet my 12 drink quota, but I had enough to tell me that I’m taking the rest of the day off. See you guys tomorrow ;)

  12. theaffiliatepost Says:

@ Bryan: ;) That piano bar looks cool for cats. We are so going there when PB and I visit!

@ PB: I was going to comment too but am trying so hard to cut down on my time sinks. Go team PissBicuit is all I say!

  13. Aaron at FullTiltBlogging.com Says:

    Piss,

A competition with you is pretty intimidating for me–you are obviously more intelligent, more experienced and much better looking than I am. How would you expect me to compete?

  14. Bryan Clark Says:

LOL - Do I sense sarcasm?

  15. PB Says:

As I commented on your blog Aaron, I think a little competition would be fun… but, understandibly, I can see where getting wore out by a new comner might be something you’d want to stay clear of… Hence the slightly insulting and sarcastic tone.

It’s okay, I love lip service! But truth be told, the only thing you’ve got on me is experience… :-P … in blogging that is ;-) Envy isn’t a good color on you.

Oh hey, I almost forgot! Maybe you should post something on FullTilt about my “Premium Theme Giveaway”… it would be the perfect chance to earn yourself a good looking theme.

  16. Blog for Beginners Says:

PB, I remember my mama told me ‘Copycat is the highest form of flattery’ and I grew up believing it. You should take pride in it that someone just loves your idea and make it his too.

  17. Aaron at FullTiltBlogging.com Says:

    Piss,

You are, of course, right. The only thing I have on you is experience.

    That’s obvious to everyone.

  18. PB Says:

@ Aaron: I’ll take your second volley of pusillanimous banter as a big enough hint. Stop back in anytime “Ojiisan”.

  19. Bryan Clark Says:

Aaron, you need to quit while you’re behind. Does anyone else find it funny that a guy that isn’t a millionaire uses a phrase like “let me help you become a millionaire” in his latest post. Maybe you should work on becoming one first ;)
“Aaron has enjoyed outstanding success, earning over $500,000 online during that time.”

You’d think he’d invest some of that 1/2 a million into a theme that doesn’t look like dog vomit. I mean really, for 1/2 a million, can’t you get a theme that isn’t free?

  20. Kirsty Says:

Geez you guys sound like a bunch of little boys. Keep it up, it’s pretty entertaining.

  21. PB Says:

@ Kirsty: Wanna join in and make this a co-ed game?

  22. Nick Says:

Too bad mom left mom’s cash blog

  23. PB Says:

@ Nick: Tell me about it… I wish I had seen it in it’s hay day prior to it being sold… I’ve read that she was pulling in 100,000 bucks a month. Don’t know how accurate that is though.

  24. Nick Says:

@Bryan- And what’s even worst than that, the guy is using a theme that is already used by a site that is someone elses. Dude needs to be original and stop swagger jacking people that are better than him.

  25. Nick Says:

And of top of that, he swagger jacked Full-Tilt Poker for his so original name, Full Tilt Blogging. Dude, you need to get your own style, people been using the stuff you jackin for a long while. On a serious note, stop dick riding people, Aaron, it’s the biggest form homo-cy that exists. Stop watchin the next man and get in your own lane.

  26. PB Says:

@ Nick: LAMO: “Swagger Jacking” I love it… you just earned yourself a spot on the “Piss List” for best quote!

  27. Kirsty Says:

Nah, not really my style. I’ll leave you guys to it. :-)

  28. theaffiliatepost Says:

@ All: it seems that while I was enjoying a rare bit of sunshine in london yesterday you were busy bickering!

@ Bryan: Well said mate…half a million bucks and on a free theme. I smell a rat! How many ideas do you have to steal to make that sort of cash??

@ PB: Pusillanimous. I love that word :) Wouldn’t waste your time with this one if I were you!

@ Aaron: Get with the program dude….think you ought to listen to Bryan on this one. You have a serious lack of credibility in my view.

@ Nick: You had me laughing out loud with that one too…unfortunately swaggerjacking.com is taken :(
@ Kirsty: You just might be the only woman I know of that does not want to say her piece!! Come on…..you know you want to!

  29. Aaron at FullTiltBlogging.com Says:

“One who puts on his armor should not boast like one who takes it off.”

  30. Kirsty Says:

One thing I will say is that Aaron sounds like a bit of a twat. I was sort of on his side… you guys are acting like bullies. But he keeps coming out lame comments like that one and it makes it hard.

  31. Aaron at FullTiltBlogging.com Says:

I think you guys miss my point entirely.

I was trying to not be confrontational with any of you–Bryan included. I was trying to say “yup, I’ll let you have it. You’re better than me.”

The response was to think somehow that meant something else.

My last comment is simply saying “time will tell.”

Now I am being called names.

    Here’s the real scoop…

Take my mentoring course and find out. If I am a fraud you’ll figure it out right away. You can be sure to tell all the readers on all your blogs.

But if I am the real deal, you’ll discover that too.

I have been careful not to disparage Bryan or any of you. If that makes me a “twat” then so be it.

So how many of you are willing to take a real look and see if I am the real deal or not? What have you got to lose?

You can sign up–free–for my mentoring here:

    http://www.FullTiltBlogging.com/blog/?p=141

And if this response makes you feel like you need to make more disparaging remarks, go ahead. It’s really OK. I figure many of you have been hurt by scam artists and therefore think everyone is out to get you. But I won’t be responding here again. There’s nothing in it for me. I’d rather be making money.

  32. Kirsty Says:

Aaron I was just teasing. See, this is why the girls don’t get involved. ;-) Good luck to you both, I say!

  33. PB Says:

@ Aaron: I beg to differ with you. You came straight out of the gate with a handful of "Smart Ass" remarks. Don’t remember them? Well let me quote a few of them back to you.

"A competition with you is pretty intimidating for me–you are obviously more intelligent, more experienced and much better looking than I am. How would you expect me to compete?"

"…I think it’s time you went back to rehab."

"You are, of course, right. The only thing I have on you is experience… That’s obvious to everyone."

“One who puts on his armor should not boast like one who takes it off.”

"Competition? You are too smart and accomplished. It wouldn’t be fair."

Now that I’ve quoted your "Smart Ass" comments, I’m confident that you’ll start to notice that you my friend have overstepped your reasoning and went from humurous to down right antagonistic. Sure, I understand that my idea is nothing new, but it doesn’t give you the right to use it without being questioned? Sorry, maybe some other seasoned pro would have done some due dilligence before authoring the worlds best idea and realised that postponing your grand master of thoughts might be prudent. Do I think you stole some amazing idea? Not really, I just find your timing to be curious and therfore your motives were questioned. As a business man, you’re sure to understand the concept. If not, maybe you shouldn’t be mentoring?

What surprises me, is that as a seasoned "Pro", you haven’t ever learned that timing and delivery means quite a bit. It’s a curious obeservation to which I questioned your "creativity". I did after all entitle this " FullTiltBlogging a CopyCat?" Yes, Aaron, the would be a "Question Mark". But without delay, the volley of obvious sarcastic remarks began to follow. I thought it was funny until now.

Yes, it’s true. I’m a new blogger, but I’m not "your" typical blogger. I have wit, savvy, and the ability to think. This means alot whether you care or not. See, having one motivated and intelligent person on your side, is better than 100 half wits. I know from experience. You remember the movie 300 right? Think back on the scene where the King was questioned for how many warriors he brought to the battle and you’ll start to see my point.

    *** Edit***

As for your mentoring program… I’m going to join. Then I’ll write a review. How’s that for a deal.
    ***Edit***

I make one awesome friend. Piss in my Cherrios, I make a much better foe.

PS: In regard to your "armor" quote. I like it. But I like mine better… "Only a seasoned rat knows the difference between cheese and bait."

  34. Robin Says:

been reading some of the insults here and I really don’t care who’s right. I don’t get the point of continuing this lame discussion. I only see it as a cheap way to attract attention, sorry PB, you probably won’t agree but so be it.
The only person in this whole conversation who made some sense was Kirsty.
Just block the comments on this post and start writing an inspiring post which will create inspiring and constructive comments.

  35. PB Says:

@ Robin: To each their own. It’s easier to watch the rodeo from the fence. Start riding a bull, and it’s a whole new ball game.

Lame discussion or not, it’s a discussion and contrary to what you think, I am not a follower of bad press is good press.

  36. Robin Says:

Think you might take all a bit to serious, you’re not riding a bull here, your sitting on a sheep. :)

  37. PB Says:

    I like that… poor little lamb. :-P

  38. zania Says:

So have you signed up yet?
And do the people on these comments count towards the ‘at least 10 other people’ you have to tell about Full Tilt Blogging…? :)

  39. theaffiliatepost Says:

Aaron glad you came back to clear the air and not being one to judge I did sign up for your program earlier today. Let’s see what you are all about!

It’s starting to sound a bit like Blogger unleashed on this thread so I say ‘get another post up PB and let’s move on!

  40. Nick Says:

PB, I’m with you man. It was all good fun until Aaron came back and tried to act like he didn’t have any blood on his hands. He’s the reason the verbal assault started. When you made the post, like most others, I just thought: “Hmmm, that’s a little odd.” Then he comes in with his little condescending smug remarks and then things changed. I’ll sign up for the program, maybe you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, so I’ll go there and see what’s inside.

  41. Bryan Clark Says:

I agree that the whole thing got a tad bit out of hand, however, why is everyone rewarding Aaron for acting like a total douche? I think I’ll pass on the Aaron at Full Twat Blogging mentor program. Kirsty, I borrowed that gem from you. So, I’ll give credit where it’s due.

  42. PB Says:

@ Zania: Yep it better count.. according ot my count Aaron’s got two links and three or four new signups from PB! Not bad. As for myself, I DID join, however it said to check my inbox… three hours later, nothing. Maybe Aaron doesn’t want me in :-)
@ Aaron: Your welcome, I’ll be waiting for you post about ny totally awesome premium theme giveaway in return… though I’m sure I’ll be waiting a while.

@ AP: Blogger unleashed huh? LOL read my latest post… then come back to that one. :-(
@ Nick: Thanks for the backup here. None of this had to do with the idea. Frankly, the topic would have died two days ago, had the mud slinging never started. My ONLY point here was that it was not an unprovoked fight.

@ Bryan: All I can do is laugh… LMAO. And since that is the only thing I can say, I’m going to go and join AP in the “comment whore” club for the rest of the afternoon.

@ Kirsty: You had that one coming. You were after all the one who started calling people bad names! Shame on you… :-P

  43. theaffiliatepost Says:

@ PB: As you well know, this is the first site I read EVERYDAY and having just read your new post I thought best to start where I left of first. My Previous remark was simply to point out that the comments on this blog had degenerated of late. I used Bloggerunleashed merely as an example but could have chosen anyone of thousands. Yes, I agree that it was for the most part full twats fault but come on mate……this is not what TPB is about right??? I’m not taking sides here but as I have repeatedly and openly said - you have my full support. I am highly sceptical of Aarons mentor program and his remarks did nothing but fuel my fire. It is that reason and that reason alone I signed up to his program and look forward to telling all about it on AP. I am not rewarding him as Bryan might say, but giving him the chance to openly prove what he is about…instead of leaving lame quotes and spoiling the pleasure that I and others get from being here. Judging by the SIX emails I have received from Aaron in the last 12 hours I don’t think we are off to a good start anyway….maybe he is sending me yours too?!?

Oh……and call me a comment whore one more time ;)

  44. Forest Says:

wow this one go out of hand!!!

I was really angry the other week. I wrote out a post about the release of FireFox 3 and before I had even published it I noticed at least 10 other bloggers has copied my idea!!!! Man I was pissed :)
Sorry for being cheeky. I don’t know if Aaron was spurred by your idea or not but i am newish member of his mentoring program and it has been great….. Just as a testament Mark mason from Mason’s World has been following Aaron’s program closely and has just released his first product Niche Adsense Themes and for a first product it is selling like wildfire so…

I hope you do join the program and hope you settle your differences with Aaron.

I am finding it tiring liking all these MMO bloggers who hate each other :)… I makes me feel like the friend of a couple who have just split….. very awkward!

  45. PB Says:

@ Forest: Facts are simple. I wrote a post on it. Then over the following three days, I just so happened to be involved in a commenting parade over at FullTilt… within a day or two… Aaron comes up with this “revised” stroke” of genius. Way to odd for me… but even so, I titled the post with a “?”. This would naturally mean I was simply proposing the plausibility of a “copy”.

I’ve stayed far away from the MMO niche for many of the same reasons you have. That said, I still know that Arron’s “program” is a lot of fluff and affiliate link spam. Just ask our friend AP (Affiliate Post) about his FullTilt Blogging experience. I’d love to tell you first hand, but Aaron denied my request into his “program”.

  46. SuiteJ Says:

“having one motivated and intelligent person on your side, is better than 100 half wits”

Can I use this in about a week? I like it!

  47. PB Says:

Sure thing J. I’m glad you like it! :-)

  48. shane at make money blogging Says:

I’ll quote from bono of U2 “every artist is a cannibal every poet is a theif all kill their inspiration then sing about their grief”
I hear alot of singing right now.
You know what amazes me about the word competition, is the idea that there isn’t enough to go around. Want to do a marketing babe of the week do one and “compete” on that basis. There’s plenty of room and space and visitors for everyone.
Im sorry but there pretty well isnt an original idea out there any more, its more or less all been done its really just a matter of who can do it better/
Looking forward to the do it better over here

  49. PB Says:

@ Shane: Don’t worry about that one… the “Piss List” is coming head on! As for the unique idea… yeh, not much these days is very original, however looking at Abber’s behavior and response tells me I was spot on with my assessment.

It’s a principle issue actually. When other bloggers “take” your ideas, it really makes people like myself second guess posting ideas, thoughts, and plans for fear of blatant scraping.

Conceptually, he could have waited a little while before launching his “new idea” and that would have kept the wolves at bay and looked a little less intentional. Instead, within a day of posting my “new idea” and linking to his blog… Marketing Babe of the Week appeared in his feed reader. As AP would put it… “Dodgy!”

I’m quite over it, as we are two different people with two different ideas on how to make money. He goes for the quantity of people he’s addressing, and I approach quality people I address.

Thanks for swinging by, hope to see more of you!

  50. Freddie Says:

That is bogus, PB. But hey, I guess like the others say, you are going to have to get use to it.

The tournament idea is cool and would be nice to follow. I like the idea of doing it regularly or yearl/quarterly/bi-annually because that will set the expectation for your readers and they can have something else to look forward to.

Good luck, have fun, and make money!

Oh boy. This post might be enough to make me avoid hitting the subscribe to RSS button.

Since we’re going with broad-brush similarities, note that even before you came up with that idea “not even a week ago” from Jun 6, David Naylor the UK SEO had beaten you to it.

    http://www.davidnaylor.co.uk/best-looking-seo.html

Perhaps some 4am feed skimming left you with a vague idea which you woke up to a few days later and blogged about. Perhaps Aaron had the same ordeal. Perhaps it was from David’s blog, not yours.

Copying and pasting the content of private conversations will never be a dignified thing to do.
